Brydon Brett

I was born on an October 24th in Kansas City, MO a long time ago. I only lived there for about three months, and then we moved to McKinney, TX. That’s where I spent most of my growing up years. I was homeschooled up until junior high. People are always like, “Wow, you were homeschooled? You’re so normal though.” Well first, I’m not really all that normal. And second, homeschooling was such a great thing for me. It allowed me to kind of learn at my own pace, and my mom was a great teacher. I used to read a lot of books. I mean a lot. I made this fort in my parents’ closet and I’d read books in it all day. Where the Red Fern Grows is one of my all-time favorites. I also played a lot of basketball growing up. I think I started watching Pistol Pete Maravich’s instructional videos when I was three or four. I held the single-game scoring record at the local Boys and Girls Club for a long time until my little brother came along and beat it. He still likes to rub that in.

When I was teenager, God, family, school, and basketball were my main priorities. My dream was to play in the NBA, and I was very disciplined and determined. I would work hard every day except Sunday (a day of rest you know). I had checklists, and timers, and training videos, and I went to the best basketball camps in the country. My dad used to coach me in AAU and select league ball. Basketball has been one of my main teachers in life. Coach Morgan Wootten said, “The same things that make basketball work make life work.” I’ve found that to be true. I’ve also always loved music and performing. I’ve always kind of been a natural ham. My mom said that she used to look at me and think that I was born to be on stage or on a sitcom. Maybe it was my big smile and even bigger ears. I’m still trying to grow into them. We used to perform a lot at local venues in the Dallas area. I sang songs like All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth and Tan Shoes and Pink Shoe Laces. Those were the days. Couldn’t keep the girls away. 

When I was about 14 we decided to come to Branson. It was hard a transition for me, but I look back on it now and it was the best thing we could have done. In Branson we were always performing, but basketball was still my focus. I kept on working hard, going to camps, getting exposure and I eventually got quite a few college looks. I attended a junior college in St. Louis, MO my freshman year but I got hurt so I didn’t finish out the season. In February of 2004 I left to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My cousin went to Siberia while I went to Portland. I was grateful. More than that, I know that’s where I was supposed to be. Those two years totally changed my life. The best thing I’ve ever done.

When I got back from my mission I still had the basketball dream, so I enrolled at Southern Virginia University and started playing again. I never planned on pursuing music any further. It never really occurred to me that it would be in my future. But little by little I felt more and more lead to quit basketball and invest my time and energy into music, writing, teaching, and speaking. I realized that my family had a pretty incredible thing going and that we could do a lot of good. It was one of the hardest calls I’ve ever had to make to call my coach and tell him I wasn’t coming back. But he understood, and I immediately knew I’d done the right thing. I started learning how to read and play music; I became president of The Fading Point, our school’s traveling acapella group; I made it into the chamber choir; I was in a musical; I began writing music a little bit. All of the time I was investing into basketball I started investing into music and my business studies so I could come back to Branson and make an impact. I remember one of my professors asking me to stand up in class, say my name, where I’m from, and tell one interesting thing about myself. I stood up and said, “I’m Brydon Brett, from Branson, MO, and I’m building a family entertainment empire.” It just kind of came out of me and I realized that that’s what I wanted to do.

I graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Leadership and I’m now back with my family in Branson. We’ve started to build foundations under our family entertainment dreams and I’m really excited. The key word for us is “family.”  I love my family and I think family-friendly entertainment is very important. I really feel energized and inspired to make a difference in the world and in people’s lives. That’s what motivates me. I love to sing, and write, and perform more and more every day as I work at improving. I got a late start so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. A wise man once told me that your dreams are informing you who you really are. I believe that. I also believe that this thing is getting really long. So I’m going to wrap it up. Thank you for coming to our site and for reading about me. I’m flattered. If I already know you, then hi. If not, then nice to meet you. I hope to see you in person very soon. Make a great day!
