My friends,
I'm in Afghanistan and will be here until late January 2012. My family lives in the St. Louis area and I miss them so much. My wife Holly, daughter Morgan, and three sons Robert, Andrew and Joshua. I try to call every day if I can to speak to my family and tell them "Daddy is okay, I'll be home soon".
Somehow, they understand and they know "Daddy" is away making America safer. Our church sends care packages to my buddies as well as me, we are all adopted and those little things like aletter bring joy and most times a tear to the eye.
I try to stay current with what is going on in the "World", that is where you are, Shopping centers, humburgers and a place where bombs and small weapons fire isn't heard almost daily, but most of all the faces of folks I know in my day to day life.
Many times my wife or children ask, "What has been going on?"…I have to reply "Oh, not much…" and leave it at that. I'm more interested in what math test they took or current friend they are dealing with instead of me telling them that a mortar flew over my head last night and exploded 100 meters past me.
I pray, you bet. I pray that God keeps my family safe and thank the Lord every waking minute that my children don't have to live in a country that is like Afghanistan.
I pray that my family understands that if I don't return, I was doing my duty and I will always be proud of them. So please, if you see a Veteran or member of the military, active, reserve or guard, tell them thank you. Most often, they will tell you it was no problem or it was their honor to serve our country. I am. God Bless.
